As you may have gathered from recent posts, we've both started new jobs within the past few months. This means we are no longer working together which makes us sad, but, at the same time, happy for our next adventures. Starting a new job often brings about a mix of emotions - excitement (this job is going to be fabulous!), anxiety (will they like me?), anticipation (is my job really going to be what the job description states?) and, sometimes, a sense of being overwhelmed (you want me to do what? and when?).
We are still learning the ropes of our new gigs but have found a few things to be really helpful so far:
- Read this book to get a sense of how you want to approach your new position, boss, co-workers and company.
- Plan your outfits in advance. This may sound silly and minor, but Sally has found it to be very helpful to have one less thing to do in the morning. This also ensures no repeats in the first week ; )
- Treat yourself to a few things during your first week. For Sally, a firm believer in the homemade lunch, this has meant ditching the hurried pieced together lunch and, instead, meeting new co-workers for lunch and hitting up the company cafeteria.
- As our moms are famous for saying, - "Be gentle on yourself." Change brings up some stuff and you've got to give yourself a break.
Amen! Hope the new jobs are going wonderfully for the both of you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura! And same to you : )
