Sally wanted to share a sliver of the impact Half the Sky has with you. The book and recently-released film address the complex and heartbreaking issues related to the oppression of women globally. Sally highly recommends the book as it's truly one that eveyone should read (the movie is fantastic, too - just not as widely available yet). Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn have dedicated their time, money and energy to changing the lives of women who have been sold and trafficked, abused and stripped of educational opportunities (among other horrific experiences).
While shedding light on these issues is admirable in and of itself, the Half the Sky movement also provides ways in which you can get involved - donate, shop, volunteer and spread the word. As Judith Bruce so succinctly states, "The failure to invest in these girls is nothing short of planned poverty." How can we ignore that?
Thanks for reading about these heavy issues. It's not easy but they sure put your "case of the Mondays" into perspective, no?
