August *children's* book recommendations

Yum!¡Mmmm! ¡QuĂ© rico!: Americas' Sproutings by Pat Mora and Rafael Lopez has become a regular read at Specky's house.  It is an amazing collection of haiku celebrating foods native to the Americas. Specky's son loves the "spicy" page about chiles!

Weird Parents by Audrey Wood is a silly story that came home with Specky after their trip to the library.  It's a lovely book about a little boy's irritation about how "weird" his parents are.  They do things like blow him kisses and shake hands with strangers - the nerve!

Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton has long been a favorite of Specky's son, but just recently her 6-month old daughter has really taken an interest in the book.  Yes, she mostly loves to chew (much to the chagrin of Specky's son) but Specky likes to think it's the sweet story of the mother's love that draws her daughter to it. It's a quick read that offers opportunities of singing, whispering and kissing!
