Olympics Fever

Hooray!  The first day of the London 2012 Olympics has arrived!  We both have an unhealthy love for the summer games - synchronized swimming, awkward jumping while holding your shins, volleyball (how does that bikini stay on?), dude gymnastics - you name it, we'll be tuning in.

One of Specky's strongest Olympic memories is when Greg Louganis hit his head on the diving board in 1988.

At 10, that may have been her first experience of "not being able to look away from the television".  You could almost feel the collective gasp and then he went on to win the gold medal.  Apparently, this is a vivid memory for many as this article was just posted on the Huffington Post.

Specky will also always remember the opening day of the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver because it was the day her son, Apollo, was unexpectedly born and everyone assumed she and her husband had named him for the American speed skater Apolo Ohno.

They. Did. Not. Ohno did take home three medals in Vancouver so he wasn't a bad person to think of as a namesake!

Sally is still obsessed with watching gymnastics ever since the Magnificent Seven of 1996.
Remember Kerri Strug's vault? And Dominique Moceanu's sassy floor routines? And Bela Karolyi's general creepiness?  What an amazing group of athletes!

Have fun tuning in and GO USA!
